Best Romantic Getaways For Couples

Whether it is a Holiday or an Anniversary getting to spend quality time with your significant other is a must! Save these top romantic getaways for the next time you are planning your love vacation!

Colorado, USA

The Garden of the Gods is without a doubt one of the most romantic getaways in Colorado. After all, this stunning, 1,300-acre park in Colorado Springs is home to awe-inspiring sandstone rock formations that soar more than 300-feet in the air.

But, for a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience, book a sunrise hot air balloon ride high above the park. It comes with a decadent, champagne toast and a full breakfast that you can use to fuel up before a day spent hiking.
Afterward, hop on the Palmer Trail and explore the park’s many red rock formations. It’s an easy, 4-mile, loop trail that connects with the Buckskin-Charlie, Niobrara, and the Bretang Trail. It’s a great way to see all of the major rock formations in the park.

That being said, it’s also a popular trial. So, be sure to get here before 7:00 am if you want to see Garden of the Gods without the crowds. And if you want a totally accessible, paved loop trail, hike the Perkins Central Garden Trail instead.

Finally, at the end of the day, unwind in the historic Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. Otherwise, you can find incredibly romantic accommodations a bit closer to the park at the much-beloved, 4-star, Mining Exchange A Wyndham Grand Hotel & Spa.

Varadero, Cuba

Just two hours away from Havana, the beach town of Varadero, Cuba is the perfect romantic beach getaway for couples. Given its proximity, it is an easy addition to a trip to Havana. Or a standalone beach destination as well.

Varadero boasts over 18 km of pristine white beaches. And is regularly rated as one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. While it has plenty of resorts to enjoy, you don’t need to stay in an expensive hotel to enjoy the beach. Much of Varadero’s best beachfront remains public. With quiet sections that can be found up and down the beach from public access points. Book a beachfront house or apartment rental just meters away from the sand for a fraction of the cost of a hotel.

For an unforgettable excursion, go on a catamaran ride to nearby Cayo Blanco

A chance to snorkel and swim with the dolphins. This uninhabited island with little more than some beach chairs and palapas off the coast. Cayo Blanco will make you feel like you’ve got a private island all to yourself.

In addition to the beach, Varadero has some incredible restaurants for a perfect date night. Including delicious seafood restaurants and small, family-run rooftop bars. Don’t skip out on the fresh lobster here, which is surprisingly affordable and expertly prepared. The best spot for it is La Rampa.

Blue Lagoon, Iceland

The Blue Lagoon in Iceland is the perfect place to put away all the distractions and just spend time with each other and relax. The Blue Lagoon is about a 20-minute drive from Keflavik International Airport. There are also tour buses available that go directly to the lagoon. I highly recommend booking your tickets in advance, especially if you are there in the summer, as it does get crowded.

The Blue Lagoon is not a natural spring, the resort is manmade. However, it does pump water from over 6,500 ft (2,000 meters) within the earth, making it a steaming 102 degrees (38 Celsius) all year long. There is a spa package available for $665, this gives you access to a restaurant and your own private lagoon! Or book a couples massage or even a night here at the Lagoon for the ultimate romantic getaway.

Lapland, Finland

If you are looking for the ultimate romantic getaway for you and your partner look no further than Finnish Lapland. Great for the winter.

During winter Lapland turns into a magical winter wonderland. A place that makes you feel as though you are dreaming. From reindeers roaming around in the forest to dreamy accommodations. Plus, the Northern Lights dancing in the sky, there is no better place to be.

The Arctic Fox Igloos are beautiful, located on the edge of a frozen lake. Igloos with their glass roof you will be occupied for hours looking at the night sky. If a little romantic luxury is more your style, then head to the Arctic Treehouse hotel. The rooms (also known as nests) are pure comfort and luxury. No detail is spared and the staff cannot do more to help make your stay perfect. Each nest has its own full window facing out onto a snowy arctic forest.

No matter where you choose to stay in Lapland there are a range of activities to make your trip feel extra special. Make sure you take a reindeer sleigh ride through the forest. Have a pack of huskie whisk across the snow with the sun setting in front of you. And of course, you cannot miss a Northern Lights tour. If you’re an adventurous couple try a snowmobile tour. Or if you’d prefer to be a little more relaxed take a horse-led sleigh out to hunt for the Northern Lights.

Paris, France

Whether you are planning to propose under the magical and sparkling Eiffel Tower or you are simply looking for a romantic getaway to surprise your better half, Paris is the number one when it comes to romantic dream destinations. Not without reason, France’s capital is known to be the world’s most romantic city.

But what makes it so romantic? Of course, the millions of lights that are illuminating your evening walk and also the cute street cafés that are so perfect to share a glass of wine or a delicious crème brûlée. But there is as well the detailed architecture, the deeply rooted and omnipresent artistic flair, and of course the exquisite food culture that connects more than just the heart and the belly.

If you are traveling to Paris with your beloved one, you can be sure to be granted romantic moments all day long. The Parisian streets are made for strolling, and is there anything better than a romantic tour in a beautiful city? Paris offers many locations for intimate walks, for example along the Seine or through the little alleys of Montmartre, but also in one of the many beautiful parks and gardens of Paris. For the perfect Parisian romantic picnic, pack some cheese, wine, and a fresh baguette and enjoy the moment.

Loire Valley, France

With royal castles, wineries, excellent cuisine, and cute medieval villages, the Loire Valley makes a perfect romantic getaway for couples. It’s only 200km south of Paris and you can also get there by train if you don’t want to drive to the French capital.

When you explore the Loire Valley castles, you feel like you went back in time to the Middle Age or Renaissance. Stories and gossips of the Kings and Queens of France come to life as you follow their footsteps in the royal castles such as Blois, Amboise, or Chenonceau. Some castles look like they come straight out of a fairy tale, such as the Chateau d’Usse, famous for inspiring the Sleeping Beauty castle.

Castles also have beautiful gardens that are perfect for a romantic walk. If you don’t feel like walking or driving, the Loire Valley region also offers the opportunity to board a small boat to discover beautiful landscapes.
It is also a perfect destination for food and wine lovers looking for a romantic memorable dinner. Many restaurants in the Loire Valley have a Michelin star, and the region is famous for its excellent wines (Vouvray, Sancerre, Muscadet, Saumur…).

Last but not least, you will find very romantic and unique accommodations in the Loire Valley. You can sleep in a castle (Chateau de Troussay, Chateau de Chissay) or a troglodyte house (Rocaminori, Demeure de la Vignole) to make your stay even more special.

Barcelona, Spain

One of the best romantic getaways is Barcelona, Spain. It’s located right by the water, and it’s filled with romantic landmarks like Park Guell, La Barceloneta Beach, and the Gothic Quarter. Plus, there’s nothing better than getting lost in the streets of Barcelona, Spain, with your romantic interest!

Other great romantic things to do in Barcelona include Montjuic Castle, La Sagrada Familia, and Tibidabo. If you’re an architecture fan, consider going on a Gaudi tour to see all of his magnificent works during your visit, too. Should you love learning more about local food, there’s no better memory to make than cooking with your lover in a local cooking class.

There are also so many great restaurants in Barcelona because each local establishment usually serves up tapas and sangria, a perfect pair, especially for a romantic evening. One of the best tapas to try is croquettes, which come in many flavors. Plus, if you plan on visiting the city for a while with your significant other, you can also try to work through your own Spain bucket list just because there truly is so much to do within the city and the country itself.

If you want to do something romantic for couples, visiting Ordesa National Park is one of the best destinations. You are probably thinking: is it romantic to visit a national park? The answer is simple: yes it certainly is!

Ordesa National Park is part of the Pyrenees of Spain and is one of the best hiking areas of Spain. The area is popular among travelers because this area is very green and impressive due to the mountains. In addition, there are many different hikes you can do in this area. What is the best Ordesa National Park hike? For people who visit Ordesa for the first time, the hike Cola de Caballo is recommended. Maldives, South Asia

Imagine a group of gorgeous islands with the most captivating hues of blue and turquoise water surrounding them. The Maldives is that fantasy you had in mind when envisioning an unreal tropical paradise! There are over 1,100 islands in the Maldives scattered throughout the Indian Ocean each referred to as an atoll. To reach each island you either hop into a boat or a seaplane. You will be whisked away to an exciting adventure for two.

The Maldives is one of the best romantic destinations for couples at any time. Especially for a special occasion like a honeymoon or anniversary. Why is it tops in the romance category? Well, the Maldives is the perfect destination for a couple to get away to as each island is remote. Almost every resort has its own secluded island so that ups the romance factor especially ones that are adult only. Having kids running around kills the vibe quickly! Include over-the-water bungalows, spa days, and first-class meals, the Maldives is the perfect romantic cocktail.

Other than lounging on the most gorgeous beaches, the top activities are snorkeling, scuba diving, boating, and surfing. What better way to connect with your partner than checking off your bucket list? Snorkeling or diving with Whale Sharks and Manta Rays (South Ari Atolls)? The Maldives is great to visit year-round. October through April is most ideal as there isn’t as much rain as the summer and early fall months.

Koh Tao, Thailand

Koh Tao is a tiny island in Thailand with white-sand beaches, crystal clear waters and incredible scenery. This is one of Thailand’s best islands and is the perfect spot for a romantic getaway. You’ll love the secluded feel and amazing selection of activities available. One of the best places to stay on the island is the Tanote Villa Hill Hotel which lies close to the quiet Tanote Bay. Just a short walk from the main reception you’ll find one of the best beaches on the island which is usually spared by the tourist crowds. Rent a kayak and explore the coastline or simply relax by the beach with a Thai massage. The hotel has rooms available for all budgets.

If you want the most romantic experience possible why not go for one of the large villas which have a private pool and some of the best views. Don’t miss out on the house restaurant which offers couples’ dinner options with multiple course meals. If you want to head into town for a drink in the evenings the hotel has a shuttle service available. They also offer customizable tours to explore the nearby islands as well as options for snorkeling and diving. Thailand is a very affordable country so you get a lot of value for your money. If you’re looking for a great spot to spend a romantic holiday consider staying at the Tanote Villa Hill Hotel in Koh Tao.

Palawan, Philippines

One of the best things about retiring to the Philippines is getting spoiled by the islands’ natural beauty. The Philippines has three islands voted in “Top 10 Most Beautiful Islands in the World.” The number #1 island on that list? Palawan.

Palawan is a tropical paradise with an endless supply of secluded beaches where a romantic sunset could last forever. Couples can find solitude on any of the islands in the archipelago of Palawan, making it the perfect island destination for a holiday romance.

Travel magazines don’t vote a destination as the world’s most beautiful island for no reason. With gorgeous sugary white-sand beaches, turquoise water clear as glass, diverse marine life, and welcoming people, there is no shortage of attractions for couples who want to escape the stress of everyday life and simply bask in each other’s company.

While the nearby tourist town of Puerto Princesa serves as the commercial hub of the province, most couples prefer to stay out of the city and head to the wilder beaches and secluded islands that dot the coastline. The most popular islands are El Nido or Coron, where couples can take island-hopping boat trips from secluded cove to secret beach to jaw-dropping limestone caves.

When visiting the island, couples can choose from several different types of accommodation to fit their budget and preference, whether it be all-inclusive resorts, private beach bungalows, or luxury villas.

Sydney, Australia

If you’re looking for a romantic city, you can’t miss Sydney, Australia. From moonlit strolls past the Sydney Opera House to beautiful, secluded beaches. This gorgeous waterfront city is one of the best places for couples. You’ll want to make the most of your time, so look for a romantic hotel or B&B in the Rocks, the oldest neighborhood. Plus, it is within walking distance to the main attractions. For a splurge, try the Shangri-La. While you’re there, don’t miss Altitude, a romantic bar, and a restaurant with sky-high views over the city. For a more boutique stay, check out the Harbour Rocks Hotel. When it comes to romantic activities, there are plenty of options.

A sunset cruise on the harbor, complete with champagne, is a special way to end the day. For adventurous types, check out the Sydney Bridge Climb. It’s been the location of more than a few proposals over the years! Sydney is also fantastic for the outdoors, so check out some of the beaches and national parks in the area. If you head to the Royal National Park or Ku-ring-gai National Park, you’ll find plenty of secluded beaches and trails. Perfect for a romantic picnic and swim, away from the crowds. Back in the city, once you’ve worked up an appetite, there are plenty of romantic restaurants to try. We recommend Bennelong, Restaurant Hubert, or Cafe Sydney.  Your relationship is sure to grow stronger after a few romantic days in Sydney, Australia!

Barossa Valley, Australia

The Barossa Valley is one of Australia’s best-known wine regions. Less than one hour from South Australia’s capital Adelaide, the region is a perfect romantic getaway. It is a beautiful place. The towns here are some of the oldest in South Australia and are full of character buildings and of course, you’re never far from vineyard views.

Visiting the Barossa is all about the finer things in life, and the best way to enjoy them is as a couple. There are the wineries. Famous names like Penfolds, Jacobs Creek, and Bethany sit alongside lesser-known but beautiful cellar doors; you have over 100 to choose from.

Besides tastings and exquisite views, many wineries offer vineyard experiences where you can meet the winemakers and tour the vineyards. An amazing artisan food scene has developed alongside the wineries. From casual meals at pubs and bakeries to fine dining at Hentley Farm, couples are spoilt for romantic dining options.

Barossa Valley Mystery Picnic is a fun way to explore the area, sample the local food and take in the scenery. It’s a great couple’s activity. But perhaps the best way to celebrate a romantic getaway in the Barossa Valley is an early morning hot air balloon flight. The bird’s eye view of the vines is breathtaking.

There is no shortage of accommodation options. From the boutique Barossa Pavilions or The Villas to the country charm of The Lodge Country House or Bethnay cottages, you’ll find somewhere perfect for your romantic couples’ getaway.

Moorea, French Polynesia

What better way to enjoy a romantic getaway than visiting actual paradise. Located in the South Pacific it is a perfect island to escape the craziness of everyday life.

With any tropical island, there are typically only two seasons, the ‘dry’ and the ‘wet’ season. Temperatures range from low 80s to high 80s (24-26 C) all year long. June and August are typically the busiest months for tourists. Summer & Fall are the ‘dry seasons’, and last from May through October, August is usually the driest month. Winter and Spring are the “wet seasons”, and last from November through April, March is usually the wettest month.

There are so many wonderful places to stay in Moorea, including the iconic over-the-water bungalows. My favorite is the Hilton Lagoon Resort and Spa. It is a fantastic resort. If you do not want to stay over the water; the King Garden Bungalow is a fantastic alternative with your own private plunge pool!

South Africa

The Garden Route in South Africa is a perfect place for a romantic getaway. It’s one of the most popular honeymoon destinations in the country. The route starts in the beautiful town of Mossel Bay and finishes 300 km later in Stormsriver. Some of the highlights of the route include Mossel Bay, Sedgefield, Wilderness, Knysna, Garden Route National Park, and Plettenberg Bay.  A road trip on the Garden Route is the best way to explore the area.

The scenery on the Garden Route is truly spectacular; unspoiled white sand beaches, charming coastal towns, evergreen indigenous forest, deep canyons, safari parks, and breathtaking lookout points. Add to all these a wide range of cozy hotels and guest houses, delicious local food, and great wine. The wildlife diversity on the Garden Route is quite impressive.

The area offers a great variety of adventure outdoor activities; hiking, safari drives, paragliding, bungee jumping, snorkeling with seals, whale watching, canyoning, and kayaking are just some of them. There are plenty less active things to do on the Garden Route as well; such as enjoying the sunset from a yacht, trying fresh local oysters, or relaxing at a spa hotel. Any couple will be able to find suitable activities regardless of age, preferences, and budget.
