Packing Checklist Guide For London

Exploring London can be fun and exciting! But you don’t want to be caught out in the rain without a raincoat or chiding yourself for not bringing that extra sweater. In this blog, I will give you a list of essentials to add to your London packing list. We will look at clothes you should bring for each season, accessories, and gadgets to make your trip easier. After reading through this guide, you will know exactly what to pack.

England Seasons

Spring & Summer – This is a lovely time to visit London, the flowers and trees are starting to bloom. The sun is shining for longer, and those rain clouds begin to disappear. The highs will get around 80 F (25 C). Keep in mind though, the warmer weather brings the crowds!

Fall & Winter – You will avoid the crowds if you come in the Fall, however, the rains begin again in the winter months. Christmas is another great time to visit, stop by Piccadilly to see amazing light displays! Highs will be around 40-50 F (5-10 C).

Here at the top items, you will need for your amazing trip to England!

Cute Tops

No matter what season you are visiting London, you must pack the perfect top to make all your Insta photos pop! I always pack a few that I can mix and match with the bottoms I bring, that way I can save space in my suitcase. Whether it is a stylish T for the summer or a comfy sweater for the Fall.

Stylish Jeans

Of course, you need jeans to match your cute top. Jeans are my go-to. I like to bring a variety of jeans that way I can switch them out and it will look like a brand-new outfit. I usually pack light wash and dark wash jeans; if I want to dress up an outfit, I will pack my black jeans.

Neutral Cardigan

If you are traveling to London during the Spring or Fall, it is bound to be chilly in the morning and warm up in the afternoon. I always like to stress the importance of layers. I always bring a neutral-colored cardigan that will go with most, if not all my outfits. It is not as bulky as a jacket and is easy to remove as the day gets warmer.

Stylish Dress

If you have a night out on the town planned, be sure to pack your favorite dress and heels! Sundresses are just perfect for those summer months! Another great piece to wear on a night out is a jumpsuit! Plus, they are super comfortable.

Walking Shoes

I can guarantee you will be doing A LOT of walking in London. Whether you are walking through the Tube station or making your way to Buckingham Palace your feet will be worn out by the end of the day. Sketchers has some great stylish walking shoes, or you can never go wrong with Nike Sneakers.

Rain Jacket/Rain Boots

If you have done any research on English weather, you know it can rain at any moment. You could bring an umbrella, although sometimes that does not work properly because of the wind. What I recommend is packing a rain jacket. I love this one from North Face and it can fold to a pretty small size, so you don’t waste any room in your suitcase. I would also pack rain boots, for those particularly rainy days. Here are my favorites from Hunter Boots!

Fantastic Bag

Because you will be doing loads of exploring and won’t make it back to your hotel until later in the evening, it is important to pack a comfortable bag to carry with you throughout the day. I like to carry my camera gear as well, here is a great backpack to use as you explore the city!

Water Bottle

Another great item to add to your London packing list is a water bottle. Because you will be doing a lot of walking, it is a good idea to bring some water, plus you won’t have to spend extra dollars on a drink at lunch. Amazon has many collapsible water bottles, again so you can save that space in your suitcase.

Adapter

Unless you are from the UK, chances are your phone charger won’t be compatible with the outlets in London. Here is the adapter I use, and I love it! It works well with my curling iron too!

Room Items

To feel like I am at home and to be absolutely comfortable in a hotel room, here are the essential items I pack:

Slippers (I have smaller footies I pack if I am just using my carry-on)

Pillow Case (Always buy a king size to fit any hotel pillow)

Washcloth (I pack this, so I don’t have to put my face or mouth on any hotel towels)

Antibacterial foam soap (I cannot stand those bars of soap used in hotels, so I bring my own!)

Laundry bag  (This one explains itself, keep those dirty clothes separated from your clean ones)

Toiletry Bag

No packing list is complete without the toiletries! If I am only bringing my carry-on, I use this bag. However, if it is a longer trip and I am bringing a checked bag, I use a larger one. The list below is everything I pack:

Shampoo

Conditioner

Body Wash

Razor (Only if I am bringing a checked bag)

Face lotion (I use this at night, but I always pack one with SPF for the day)

Body lotion (Especially after a long flight, you want to moisturize as much as possible)

Toothbrush/Toothpaste/Floss

Contact case/Solution/Glasses case (If needed)

Deodorant

Brush (I use a mini Wet Brush)

Hair products (Buy travel size when you can)

Makeup (I buy travel size, it makes it easier to pack plus it saves a few pennies!)

Makeup remover (I love the individual wipes, they also work great for a face wash, so that is one less item to bring)

Small earrings, just to keep it simple. They bring the outfit together and are stylish if your hair is up.

Side note: I also recommend bringing some sort of allergy medication. I also like to bring acetaminophen, anti-diarrheal, and an antiacid for emergency purposes.

Airplane Bag

For any trip I have my suitcases, I also like to bring an airplane bag with all the flight essentials.

Headphones (These work perfectly for movie watching and are noise canceling!)

A good book (I love my Kindle!)

Passport (Here is one I use, I can fit my ID, credit cards, and cash)

Blanket (I freeze when I fly)

Airsickness meds

Disinfectant wipes

Save room for any snacks you purchase at the airport and a water bottle.
